Changing Your ISP Router: Why Do It (and When It's Worth It)

If you have fiber at home or in your business, chances are you're using the router that your ISP installed on the day of activation. It works, yes... but working is not the same as performing well.

More and more clients contact us in Barcelona because their network is "slow," the Wi-Fi doesn't cover the whole home, or they have micro-outages while working remotely. In many of these cases, the problem is not the fiber... it's the router.

Why Change Your ISP's Router?

ISPs (Movistar, O2, Orange, etc.) install standard equipment designed to:

Meet the minimum contracted service
Reduce deployment costs
Allow remote management by the operator

They are not designed for demanding scenarios such as:

Intensive video calls (Teams, Zoom, Meet)
Simultaneous 4K streaming
Home automation / IoT
Stable teleworking
Networks with many devices
NAS servers or remote access

And here is where the real difference begins.

Changing the router has a direct impact on performance and stability:

We have also carried out functional Internet configurations on neutral/FritzBox routers in real environments.

The data part is viable, but the landline is provisioned in a closed way by the operator, so it is not always transferable or relevant in installations where a landline is not used.
