Replace Your ISP Router: Why Do It (and When It’s Worth It)

If you have fiber at home or in your business, chances are you’re still using the router your ISP installed on day one. It works, yes… but working isn’t the same as performing well.

More and more clients in Barcelona contact us because their network “feels slow”, Wi-Fi doesn’t cover the entire home, or they get random micro-drops while working remotely. In many of these cases, the problem isn’t the fiber… it’s the router.

Why replace your ISP router?

ISPs (Movistar, O2, Orange, etc.) usually install standard devices designed to:

Meet the minimum contracted service
Reduce deployment costs
Allow remote management by the operator

They’re not built for demanding scenarios such as:

Heavy video calls (Teams, Zoom, Meet)
Multiple 4K streams at the same time
Smart home / IoT
Stable teleworking
Many connected devices
NAS servers or remote access

That’s where the real difference begins.

Benefits of using a neutral or professional router

Replacing the router has a direct impact on performance and stability:

ISP routers typically have:

We’ve also deployed working real-world Internet configurations using neutral routers/FritzBox devices.

Data service is usually achievable, but landline telephony is often provisioned in a closed way by the operator, so it isn’t always transferable — and it’s not always relevant in setups where a fixed line isn’t used.
