Ram Memory

RAM (Random Access Memory) is the computer’s fast, short-term working memory. Its main job is to temporarily store the data and programs your PC is using right now, so the CPU can access them instantly. Unlike an SSD or hard drive (long-term storage), RAM works in real time and clears when you power off the system.

In general, more RAM and/or faster RAM helps your computer feel smoother, especially in these situations:

• Multitasking: lots of browser tabs, multiple apps open, video calls, etc.
• Gaming: improves stability and can reduce stuttering in certain games (especially if you were low on RAM).
• Content creation: Photoshop, Premiere, DaVinci, Blender, CAD… often require a lot of RAM.
• Professional workloads: large spreadsheets, databases, management software, virtual machines.
• Everyday use: faster app switching and fewer slowdowns when the system is under load.

When a computer has too little RAM, Windows (or any OS) has to rely more on the drive as virtual memory, which is much slower. That’s when you notice longer loading times, freezes, and the system constantly “thinking.” That’s why upgrading RAM is often one of the best value performance upgrades to extend a PC’s useful life.
